What I Brought With Me
Each piece represents a different part of my life’s journey and the states that I have lived in, California, North Carolina, and Ohio. The backpack has the map of my hometown of Corona, California. What I brought with me is embroidered onto it because when I left my first home, I brought all that I had with me. The neck pillow has the map of Huntersville, North Carolina with Where I found comfort. I lived in NC for 7 years, through all of high school and community college. It was during those 7 years that I went through years of loneliness, friendship, heartbreak, and love. It was the place that I found who I was and being comfortable with that. My family moved back to CA from NC Summer of 2017, but I took my next journey to Bowling Green, Ohio January of 2018. The eye mask has Where I’ll find my future across the city of Bowling Green. Ironically I did not get much sleep while attending BGSU, but it has shown me the future I strive for. Before this project I had only minimally done any kind of sewing. The biggest thing being a square pillow. So as a whole this was a challenging project.
